An Garda Síochána have shared the following warning for pet owners.

Animal charities have urged people to watch their dogs carefully after a spate of disappearances and suspected thefts throughout the country.

Animal and dog groups believe suspected dog thefts are linked with a bigger demand for dogs during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Whilst there aren’t any in this division there seems to be a worrying trend nationally. Smaller dogs seem to be taken mostly. If possible get the dog chipped. If they are not in your company, make sure they are secured safely. Look out for neighbours dogs. Please dont post on social media about pups being born because thieves watch these types of posts. And above all, please report any suspicious activity/vehicles in your area. If you find any dogs in distress out of hours, please call us and we will get the relevant groups to help.

UPDATE: A local has reported that cats may also be targeted.
