Visit By Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht

Delvin Castle, WestmeathMinister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys, visited Delvin Castle on Thursday 30th April. She was accompanied by Damien English T.D., Councillor Frank McDermott and Historical Society chairperson, Eamonn Clancy.

Delvin Castle was built in 1181 by Hugh De Lacy and requires some maintenance work to be carried out with unsightly ivy and grasses etc to be removed by the Board of Works. Minister Humphreys as Heritage Minister took our concerns on board and we await the outcome.

Sincere thank to Fergus and Christine Kearney for allowing access to the castle and for the tea and cake which was much appreciated by all attending.
