St Mary’s Churchyard Restoration 2012

Congratulations to Delvin Tidy Towns who drew a large crowd to St Mary’s Church on Friday 2nd November, to take a look at the amazing work that their members have been carrying out over the last few months. The grounds are almost unrecognisable and graves that have been hidden by weeds and brambles for many years, are now clear and accessible.

St Marys draws in many a passing visitor during the year, keen to explore the ruins and to have a look at the inscriptions on the tomb stones. The work undertaken to date will certainly add to its appeal in the future. Work on this important project will continue in 2013 and it is hoped that more volunteers will come forward and help maintain the grounds going forward.

Michael Murphy of the Delvin Historical Society gave a short talk on the history of the church and the video is included below.
