Delvin opened their 2106 championship campaign with a hard fought 5 point victory over our neighbours Brownstown at Cusack Park on Sunday evening. After a solid start with points from Darragh Clinton and Conor Dolan Brownstown hit a purple patch scoring 5 of the next 6 scores to go into a 5 pt to 3 lead and put us under a lot of pressure particularly as Delvin had the aid of strong breeze. Delvin got back into the game with point from Dolan and a great long range score from Alan Cox to draw level at 5 apiece. Delvin finished the half the stronger with 4 points from Clinton to go in at half time up 0-10 to 0-7.

Delvin needed a strong start to the second half and got it with a goal from Paddy Farrington and had a great opening 10 minutes and when Farro batted his second goal in and Clinton followed with a point we moved into a 10 point lead 2-12 to 0-8 with 18 minutes remaining. Ronan Kelly was then sent off for a second yellow card and Brownstown finished strong to score the last 5 points but Delvin held on to win on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-13. Special mention to Alan Clune who was immense for the Valley men in the 2nd half.
