On Saturday the 25th of April, the Delvin Scouts joined scouts from all over the county and headed to Westport to take on the challenge of climbing Croagh Patrick. A total of seventy-eight scouts began a trek along the Pilgrims way in a bid to reach the summit.

Early weather forecasts indicated that conditions would be less than pleasant on Saturday and on departing from Delvin at 7.00am, it seemed like the forecasters were spot on. However on our approach to Westport, blue skies began to appear and it wasn’t long before the warm stream of sunshine was bearing down on the scouts.

While the weather is a major factor in any climb there can be no taking away from the effort put in by every scout, young and old, who undertook the challenge. Well done to all.
