Delvin Community Still Thinking Of Others

Once again, the people of Delvin have shown enormous generosity in their support of good causes with three major fund raising events in the space of just two weeks!

The inaugural Delvin Tractor Run took place on Sunday 28th July. Fifty five vehicles ranging from classic tractors to the latest models left the Cattle Mart for a thirty mile round trip, concluding with a BBQ which was thankfully tidied away before the heavens opened.

This event should receive a special commendation as the organisers were predominantly young people who tried something different and raised more than €3,000 for the Irish Cancer Society with further donations yet to be collected.

Organisers would like to thank everyone who joined the run and everyone that volunteered, sponsored and supported it.

The Inland Bikers MCC held their fourth annual run in aid of North Westmeath Hospice on Saturday 27th July. The event was very well supported and a great day out was enjoyed by all. The amount raised has yet to be confirmed but it is expected that this year’s contribution could bring the total amount raised from this and previous runs over the €30,000 mark!

Congratulations to the organisers and a special note of thanks to all the bikers who joined the event, plus all the marshalls, paramedics, drivers, collectors and those who prepared and helped with the breakfast in the hall.

Presentation of the cheque will take place at the Blue Hackle on Saturday 17th August.

Finally (for now), Alec & Evelyn Sherwin opened their award winning gardens to the public on Sunday 21st July and raised €2,215 for North Westmeath Hospice. This charity provides local, specialist palliative care services to people that are coping with life threatening illness, death or bereavement.
