All club activities both adult and underage were cancelled last weekend as a mark of respect on the passing of our long serving Club President, Tommy Gaffney.

It was a sad weekend for all involved with Delvin GAA as we lost one of our longest standing members in Club President, Tommy Gaffney. His popularity was shown in the huge numbers that turned up at his wake in Bracklyn on Saturday and again at his funeral in Delvin on Sunday.

Tommy was a great servant to the Delvin Club having played in the late 50’s and 60’s winning among other honours a Junior title with St Ernans in 1966 and with Delvin in 1968. He played a huge part in the club in the 80’s and 90’s as he mentored many teams and was consistently involved at committee level right up to his last few years.

He passed that mantle on through the family as his daughter Assumpta is our Club Secretary and his son Andrew is our Club Treasurer. He found great pride in watching his grandchildren play hurling, football and Camogie and this pride was no more so evident than last year when his grandson Eoin Quinn was a part of the All Ireland Feile and County U-14 championship winning team.

To his wife Rita, sons Sean and Andrew, daughters Assumpta, Pauline, Maura and Una and all family and friends we extend our deepest sympathies.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
