GAA Club Notes 22/08/16

Senior Hurling Championship
Like our previous 2 championship matches it was a case of what if we performed in both halves. On a dreary evening in Cusack Park we failed to put up any opposition to Raharney in the first half of this Senior championship encounter. Down by 1-2 to 0-0 after 5 minutes and despite some valiant effort we trailed at half time on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-2. It was a much changed Delvin team from the last day with 4 lads unable to play due to injury but the lads came out for the 2nd half and performed heroically and a late contentious goal from Raharney when we had it back to 6 points took away from what was a very commendable 2nd half effort. Darragh Clinton provided most of those 2nd half scores but was ably assisted by Ronie Kelly & Stefan Ennis with Paddy Poynton giving a strong defensive display in his first championship start. We will take the positives from that 2nd half performance and must now focus on our next outing in two weeks v Castlepollard.

Underage
St Ernan’s U14’s after a great finish to their season reached the semi final of the U14 Premier Hurling competition against Raharney. Unfortunately it was a step to far for these young men who came up against a strong Raharney side in Clonkill last Sunday morning and were defeated on a scoreline of 9-9 to 1-7. Well done to all the lads on a great year.

Our U10 hurlers travelled to Brownstown last week where we went down after a great game to the home side. We travel to Joristown this Tuesday evening to take on Raharney at 7pm.
