Delvin Sports & Leisure Launch Outdoor Gym Equipment Area Friday 2/7/21
Delvin Sports and Leisure Centre (DSLC) are pleased to announce the launch of a full suite of outdoor gym equipment at our centre in Balrath South, Delvin.
This exciting addition to our walking track and sports pitch, completed on Friday, June 25th, means that our users can now enjoy a gym-style full-body workout at the DSLC, in the safety of an outdoor setting!
There are 10 separate workout stations covering all the major muscle groups, including a rowing machine and bicycle. All of the workout stations are installed on a soft surface platform and have easy-to-follow instructions. As part of our commitment to diversity at our centre, we have two workout stations suitable for wheelchair users. The equipment is designed for users aged over 14 years and conforms to EU safety standards.
This fantastic addition to our facility was financed with a combination of Delvin Book Festival funds and grant aid from Westmeath Community Development (Leader). It is the result of over a year’s hard work by our treasurer Julie O’Brien with the kind assistance of Darina Coughlan at Westmeath Community Development. We are grateful to Chris Glynn at Outdoor Fitness Kiltimagh Mayo, and our project engineer John Madden, for their courtesy and professional service. As always, we are grateful to all at St Scire Community Employment Scheme Delvin for the maintenance of our grounds and pitch.
Delvin Sports and Leisure Centre are indebted to the loyal customer base who support our annual Delvin Book Festival, which has become a feature cultural event in North Westmeath each May Bank Holiday weekend, and to the users of our facility who provide donations big and small. Without your support, this wonderful new amenity at the DSLC would not be possible.
Like many groups working in community development, the Covid-19 outbreak has halted DSLC’s fundraising activities through the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 Delvin Book Festivals. We will be announcing fundraising initiatives to address this deficit shortly.
Electronic donations can be made to Delvin Sports and Leisure Centre:
In the meantime come along to the DSLC and try out our gym equipment and traffic-free 650 metre walking track, you’ll soon see and feel the health benefits of a routine combining exercise, fresh air, and fun!
