PLEASE Clean Up After Your Pets!

Dog Fouling - Please Clean It Up!This is not just a local issue but in response to a message received via the Delvin Facebook Page, I am reminding all local dog owners of the need to clean up after their pets.

Message received:
“Just want you to be aware how people are letting there dogs sh*t on the footpaths in the village! It takes 5 seconds to pick up! It creates a nasty smell as you walk up the town – not to mention how unhealthy it is. If you could bring it to people’s attention and remind them to clean up after their dogs, I and many others would appreciate it! Keep your eyes peeled while walking. “

Dog Fouling & The Law

“Under Section 22 of the Litter Pollution Act 1997 it is an offence to allow a dog under your control to foul a public place. This means the owner or person in charge of the dog is required to remove dog faeces and dispose of them in a suitable, sanitary manner.”

To learn more about your obligations as a dog owner, please take a look at Westmeath County Council’s Control of Dogs guidelines, or to report a persistent dog fouling nuisance, visit the “Report Dog Fouling” page.
