The 3rd Westmeath Delvin Scout Group held their first AGM on Thursday 16th of June and the event was attended by parents and members of the scout group.
Group leader, Jean O,Neill, opened the meeting by welcoming those in attendance and paid a special tribute to Damien O’Reilly who recently resigned from the group, for all his hard work and dedication. Jean went on to outline what the group had been involved in the year and this – for the most part – involved working within the local community. Jean also paid special thanks to all those within the community who have helped the group with fundraising and logistics throughout the year and paid a special thanks to Martin Carroll and Hubert Moran.
Jean extended her thanks to those other organisations who have helped the group throughout the year, especially RSM O’Callaghan and the members of the 4th Field Artillery, Mullingar Fire Service and the GardaĆ – all who made the first year a memorable experience.
Miriam Maguire read the report from the Beaver Section, Bertha McBride gave the Cub sections report and this was followed by the Scout report read by Nicola Douglas. Tony O’Neill – Quartermaster – went through the equipment that was purchased by the group over the last year. This equipment is vital as it allows the group to take part in out door activities planned by Scouting Ireland and the group’s own excursions.
The report readings were followed by a Q & A session from the floor. The question regarding the waiting list was brought up. Jean O’Neill stated that there were at present forty children on the waiting list to become members of the group and in order to bring more children into the group, we would have to get more leaders. Jean also mentioned the she would like to see a Parents and Friends committee set up to help with fundraising.
Jean ended the meeting, once again thanking all for attending and for their continuing support over the next year.
