Planning Well Underway For Christmas Lights

Christmas Lights 2014The annual Christmas celebration in the Courtyard will take place at 7pm on Saturday 6th December. The details were discussed at a well supported meeting on Sunday evening at which a number of new members suggested fresh ideas and volunteered to help out.

Sadly, it is not currently viable to run lights along the full length of our main street and at an annual cost of €4,500 for that display, it is hardly surprising! Insurance, ESB and professional charges apply, even to an event such as this. Last year the small committee worked very hard to deliver a Christmas display on a vastly reduced budget and the results were appreciated by us all. It is hoped that if more people become involved and greater funds become available, the annual display will continue to grow.

Switching On Ceremony

This year’s switching on ceremony will take place at 7pm on Saturday 6th December. The Valley Singers have kindly agreed to entertain the crowd with Christmas songs and carols as Mr and Mrs Claus make their way through the village to oversee the switching on of the festive light display. Children will then have the opportunity to visit Santa in his special grotto inside the handball centre. A small charge of €2 per child will apply to visit Santa, to have a photo taken and to receive a small gift.

Christmas Draw

Draw cards will shortly be available in all local shops and schools. Entry is €2 per line and in return you could win one of two super hampers.

Remember – all monies received will go towards costs and to developing and improving the Christmas lights in the years ahead. Please support!
