Life in and around ‘the Big Houses’ of Westmeath

Do you have family stories or memories that were shared from your grandparents or older relatives and friends about life in the ‘Big Houses’ of Westmeath in the early 1900s?

If so, Oliver Fallen from Bailey & Blake Productions would love to hear from you. He is producing a series of videos that will feature memories of life in and around ‘the Big Houses’ of Westmeath and is keen to capture the memories of the resident families as well as those of people who worked in or had other connections with these houses. He is also keen to see old photographs of these Big Houses, old family photographs that might capture life in and around the local area during the early decades of the 20th Century.

The documentary will focus on the years 1913-1923. It is being made by Bailey & Blake Productions in conjunction with Westmeath County Council with funding from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media through their Decade of Centenaries Programme. Although we are targeting that 1913-23, I still would like to hear of anyone’s memories that their relatives might have told them in the ’30s and ’40s as well.

If you would like to share your family memories (either on-camera or voice recording) or if you have old photographs that you would like to share with the project contact: baileyandblake1@gmail.com  or text your name and number to 087 2539010.

Photographs will be scanned and returned to the owners. If you do not want to send the photos, we would happily go visit you and shoot them on camera, and then send you copies afterward if you wish.
