The 3rd Westmeath Delvin Scout group Beaver section attended their first ever two night camp on the June bank holiday weekend. Up until last year Beavers were only allowed to attend a one night camp, however with the change to a two night came a host of new possibilities.
The section left Delvin on Friday evening and headed to Portlick campsite situated on the shore of Lough Ree. Having set up their tents the group of excited beavers made light work of some hot chocolate and marshmallows before settling in for a night of jibber jabber.
Our alarm clock was gratefully supplied by the dawn chorus and with breakfast out of the way we set in for a full day of activities, which included Human Foosball, an obstacle course, zip wire, Gladiators, bouncy castle obstacle course, archery, crate stacking, Canadian canoeing and finally a forest treasure hunt. Following this the Beavers and leaders were ready for a good night’s sleep despite the wind and rain.
The Beavers returned to Delvin on Sunday and are eagerly awaiting our next outing in July.
