Please be vigilant when responding to unsolicited phone calls, texts, emails and even door to door callers. A number of scams are doing the rounds at the moment so be careful about the information you give out.
This week (w/c March 2nd), a text message was sent to a local person, claiming to be from An Post and requesting the recipient pay €2 to release a parcel that they were holding. Thinking nothing of it, the recipient went to pay the fee, but (thankfully) their bank intervened and declined the transaction. A second attempt to make payment also failed. Had the bank not flagged the transactions as suspicious, two charges of €49 would have been made to the account.
An Post are aware of the scam and have warned all service users to be vigilant. An Post do not request bank details or payment from customers using text or email systems.
