The Purple Raven Gallery will launch a new exhibition on Saturday July 16th by our gallery artists. Entitled ‘Alchemy of the Artist’ the exhibition examines the ancient artist’s compulsion to experiment and express. By using the base materials around them, they strove to create a masterpiece and find the immortal elixir of life through their art. The exhibition will include a range of our gallery artists who will strive to express themselves through whatever medium they wish, to fulfil that very compulsion to create. Local artists exhibiting include Emma Noonan, Jonathan Von Baumann and Jennifer Farley.
Gallery owner and artist Hazel Revington-Cross planned this exhibition as a way of celebrating the arts in the locality and acknowledging the huge amount of creativity that takes place in one small area alone. Hazel invites those attending to take part in creating a group mosaic along with Artist Dawn Aston who runs our mosaic workshops and it will become a permanent feature at the gallery. The theme of the mosaic will be a hedgehog painting a Picasso style painting as it is one year ago since a little hedgehog wandered into the gallery during our summer event and became quite well known on social media. Since that day the gallery became associated with hedgehogs and the Dublin Hedgehog rescue centre has released quite a few rescue hedgehogs back into the wild in this area.
The exhibition will run from 7pm until 10pm, and all are welcome to attend. The evening will feature a poetry reading by Actress Mary McEvoy, a music session by ‘The Many Mores’ and we will have on display some of the paintings created by our budding artists in the locality who have been attending art classes in the gallery. Refreshments will be served.
