Archaeological Investigation At Clonarney, Delvin

Delvin Historical Society presented a talk on the recent archaeological (geophysical) investigation carried out on lands adjacent to Clonarney / Church graveyard, Delvin, on Thursday 15th July 2010.

The presentation was attended by Dr Roseanne Schot and Dr Ger Dowling from the Department of Archaeology at NUI Galway. The society will detail the research findings in due course, but initial land surveys suggest that there could indeed be the remains of 6th-9th Century monastery in the grounds.

Dr Manfred Peter, author of “On The Trail Of St Wendelin” also gave a talk about his research in to St Wendelin and his links to the area.
