Garradrimna
The 2010 event was based on “Garradrimna” – the setting for Delvin native Brinsley MacNamara’s successful but infamous novel “The Valley Of The Squinting Windows”.
Originally published in 1918, the book caused a storm when local people began to realise that some of the characters in the book resembled exaggerated versions of themselves.
Ninety-two years after the book’s original publication which lead to a court case involving McNamara, and his school-teacher father’s ostracising by the local community; a public reading from “the book” took place in Delvin – the village that is often still referred to as “the valley”.
