Community Alert Notes – 26th October

The meeting was well supported by local people with some new faces in attendance. Also present were Adrian Regan (Sergent), Niall Sheridan (Garda Liaison Officer), John Connelly (Crime Prevention Officer) and Noel McCarthy (Muintir Na Tire).

Road Closure

Concerns were expressed about the road closure outside Lacora Glen and placement of related road work signage. Sgt Regan said that he had been in contact with the contractors and that he had been assured that the problem would be fixed the next morning. In addition, they had provided a 24 hour contact number.

Illegal Parking At Cattle Mart

Concerns were also expressed about illegal parking of cars, vans and jeeps at Delvin Cattle Mart. These vehicles have made it very difficult for parents heading to or from the nearby school to see oncoming traffic. In addition, other vehicles have blocked private driveways and footpaths leading to involvement by gardai. The owner of the cattle mart has been contacted in relation to the above.

Senior Alert

The committee had been in contact with the Post Office who advised that they would notify local Garda if any senior citizen’s do not collect their pensions during the winter. This would help make sure that nobody is unaccounted for in harsh weather should we see a repeat of last year’s snow.

Community Alert is also appealing for anyone with a tractor or a 4×4 who would be willing to help get supplies out to elderly people during the winter.

Local Gardai also stated that they would be more than happy to call to any elderly people to make sure that they were OK.
